How do I get to Orcas Island?
Check out our travel page for details.
Several of us have reservations on the 12:35pm ferry on Thu 12 Sep. Check-in at West beach is at 4pm.
Do I have to attend the entire weekend?
Nope, come for as much or as little as you like. We recommend making it a long weekend but we understand that not everybody has that kind of flexibility. If you are going to come for just one part, we recommend aiming for the Saturday Main Event.
If you want to stay at West Beach then there is a 3-night minimum stay, as we are at the edge of their High Season.
Do I have to stay at the resort?
No. But we think it will be more fun if most people do stay there. We expect that all of the cabins and tent cabins will sell out, so if you aren’t enthused about camping in a tent then you have an easy story for why you are staying off-site. We won’t hold it against you. :)
What’s with those funny names for the Karaoke night?
Mary Tremonte gave us “who wore it vest”, from a story where she wore an eccentric vest and then a bunch of her friends wanted to try it on … and they ended up taking a bunch of funny pictures and debating who wore it vest.
“Out-Tremonte the Tremonte” is a reference to an Andrew Moroney story about a colorful character named Wade whom he met at a bar in Portland. Wade tried to teach Andrew how to perform a standing backflip in the middle of a crowded bar, and he was generous with life advice that was distilled into catch phrases.
How soon should I book my lodging?
Do it soon! The resort has limited numbers of cabins (20) and tent cabins (10), so if you want one of those then you should scoop it up. We expect camp sites to be less “competitive” but you should still go ahead and book. It also makes the process a bit easier for us.
Is the event Kid Friendly?
Totally.
Our little Phoebe will be in attendance at 7 months old, and a ridiculous number of y’all already do or will have infants or toddlers, and even some older kids from the over-achievers amongst us.
Everything at the resort should be easy with kids. The only activity that isn’t kid-friendly is the Karaoke on Friday night. The Lower Tavern is 21+, so some kids and parents/grandparents will be sitting that one out.
